Thank You, Ike Turner! |

Ike Turner was a FORCE. I was fortunate enough to see him live a couple of times. He was INTENSE. I will always enjoy the CD, "Ike's Instrumentals" and his 1972 LP, "Blues Roots". Check him out trading razor sharp guitar licks with Otis Rush ("The Cobra Recordings) on "Double Trouble". Thanks for the music, Ike. Without you, a LOT of people, starting right at the top with the obvious, would never had the breaks and the fame, because the breaks and the fame came because of a tough guy behind the scenes. And Ike...you were the sharpest dresser...like a razor, brother. Like a razor! I can see you know in a sharp stage suit, wielding that Stratocaster like a weapon. Thanks for the music, the smokin guitar, the soulful voice. Tom Mix - old FM radio deejay and music fanatic

I can honestly say that it was Ike Turner's music that got my attention and kept my attention to music. He was my musical mentor. The first song I ever loved was Ike & Tina doing Honky Tonk Woman from the Come Together album in 1970. I used to be on a bantam bowling league and every Saturday morning I would go down to the bowling alley and as soon as the lady who worked behind the counter of the soda fountain there would see me she would say "uh oh, here comes that Honky Tonk Woman boy!" I would play that song at least three times. I made my dad buy me every Ike & Tina album that we could find and his style has been a major influence in the shaping of my music career to this day. I feel very blessed that on four or five occasions I was able to meet him and talk with him. I am so grateful that I was able to share my feelings about his artistry with him and what he meant to me. He knew that I was much more than a fan.

An America Icon |
December 13, 2007 |
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the Turner family. I am disheartened that people and the media would focus on the negative aspects of anyone's life without first focusing on their own. Ike Turner was a true American Icon.
While the press reports on the previously mentioned negativity and the creation of the first Rock and Roll song with "Rocket 88," they forget his A&R work with Sun Records and United Records. I am sure that B.B. King, Howling Wolf, Earl Hooker and many others are glad they met Ike Turner, as he helped them to get recorded and, at times, played on their records. Not to mention, that he was an exceptional songwriter, arranger, and band leader. In addition, what an incredible keyboard and guitar player he was. I have been a musician for over 40 years and Ike was an incredible inspiration as a musician and a person. Rest in peace Ike. Without a doubt, you earned it!

Thank You!!!! |
December 13, 2007 |
I would like to extend my warmest wishes and deepest condolences to the family, friends and bandmates of Ike Turner.
I am a man who makes his living playing and teaching rock and roll guitar and I have always made a point to teach my students about how Ike created rock and roll with his classic song "Rocket 88". I love to share how Ike also pioneered the use of distortion in electric guitar amplification. These contributions to modern music are literally so far reaching that they cannot even be measured!
I will continue to teach the kids about the Ike with great love, respect, and reverence.
All the best Ike, wherever you are! PEACE!

Jesus Will Embrace You |
December 13, 2007 |
Weep not but rejoice
For after a very short conversation
The Lord shall surely embrace you Ike
And open wide the pearly gates to heaven
To allow another one of his children to enter into
That which is eternal Grace
For not only will the angelic trumpets sound
But so will the blues guitars
The boogie woogie pianos
The backbeat drums
And the big bass
As well as the beautifil noise of
The voices of all who have gone before you
Whose multitudes will strike
A resonant chord of welcome
Throughout the heavens
In anticipation of the arrival of yet another
Eternal son
If we all listen closely we just may hear it in our dreams
Thank you Ike!
