Final Mile
I rest now because this is my final mile. weep not for me because God has laid me down. The feelings of pain and hurt are a thing of the past. I close my eyes now, there is rest at last. It's hard for you to understand, but all Gods children will enter this land. The final mile we all must take, as sure as there is a heaven, you know we must leave earth.
Fear not for me because I'm at rest. God is almighty, you know He knows best. Weep not my children, we'll meet again in a place called heaven where there is no sin. Your hearts are heavy and your sorrow run deep, you must remember tha I am only sleep as I journey on my final mile. Think of the good things that made you smile. Cry not for me because I paid my dues. I'm in God's hands now, that's the good news. Life goes on for the living and time passes on. Pray for all the children and make them strong. It's time to go now, I'm on my final mile. Cry not for me, remember me with a smile as I travel on this my final mile.

Ike was (and always will be) my favourite musician, I saw him in concert a couple of years ago and he was amazing, thought I didn't get to meet him. And that is how I will choose to remember him. My thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP

Some may think of the preacher. Some may think of the president. I immediately think of the MUSICIAN-Ike-; most people allow words to define them. Very few define words... I greatly appreciate the lives and experiences he created through his sound. Pioneers are like nothing else. They refuse to be confined to the boundaries of society the explore the wilderness they follow their heart. An most importantly they immitate God. They CREATE... Thank you, Mr. Turner.

Everybody has a past. Why hold it against them. He is gone now and only God can rightly judge him. So, may he rest in peace.

I danced to Proud Mary and cried at the movie What's Love....but he is an icon and he will live on with his music. My sincere condolences to his family and I sincerely hope you have many many fond memories!

Ike's spirit lives! |

Although his presence will surely be missed--how can there ever be another like him--his influence and spriit will never leave this world. Music is forever changed because Ike Turner lived. Accordingly, we are forever changed through his influence. What a sense of vision and ear for talent he had. Thanks for everything you did to make my life better and deepest sympathies to his family.

It was only through Martin Scorsese's Presents series on the blues that I really got to come across Ike Turner . . .like everyone else you lazily associate Ike with the goings on with Tina. . .
What I saw blew me away . . .I'd never seen anyone so infused with the guitar as an instrument like it was something he used to talk with!! . . .quite something else . . .
They say that someone is really a star in your eyes not cus you're in awe of them but because you simply want to sit down and have a a cup of tea with them . . .Ike Turner was really a guy I would have loved to have a cup of tea with shooting the breeze . . .those who knew him, you are blessed to have done such a thing . . .
Maybe one day, we'll get to have that cup of tea . . .
