I'll Miss you My Friend |
December 13, 2007 |
Just last week, my daughter Faith asked me "Mom, we need to call "Uncle Ike" and I told her I would call this week. Well, I waited too late, but no matter what, Ike knew that we loved him. To the family, you have my deepest sympathy. Ike was very good to me and my daughter when we lived in Los Angeles. I had the pleasure of singing background on his music in the early to mid-90s. Me, Leta B and Sylvia Shemwell along with his wife Janette sang on Ike's music. I learned so much from him during that time and whenever I needed to talk, he listened. The Ike I knew was a beautiful man and I am proud to say that I knew him. I will miss you my friend. Tiana

My friend knowledge of you as an excellent musician was from my neighbor who play your hit "Rocket 88" continuously. I was a little girl and really enjoyed the music. I did not know it was you until years later. You have been an inspired a lot of people.

Ike,
While some here are focusing on your mistakes I believe the majority are celebrating your successes. You've given enjoyment through your music to many people around the world. You were an inspiration to those who strived to succeed in the industry and the Lord will forgive you when you arrive at the gates. The racists and the petty who defoul this board with their nonsense will answer as well. Lets bow our heads and pray...
Matthew 25.31-34
"When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
Ike, prepare for your inheritence.

The music lives on. God bless and guide you on your next journey.
"From this hour I ordain myself loos'd of limits and imaginary lines,
Going where I list, my own master total and absolute,
Gently, but with undeniable will, divesting myself of the holds that
would hold me.
I inhale great draughts of space,
The east and the west are mine, and the north and the south are
mine.
I am larger, better than I thought,
I did not know I held so much goodness. "
-excerpted from Whitman's , Song of the Open Road.
