I have just returned to the United Kingdom from a trip to Sun Studio in Memphis. I learned that Rocket 88 from 1951 was recorded there and was probably the first Rock and Roll record. It featured a young Ike Turner. I was amazed. Could this be the same Ike that I first heard play on an album called Soul to Soul (recorded in Ghana) when I was a child in the early 1970s? Of course it was and I thought he was brilliant when I first heard that album. Over the years since then I have heard other examples of Ike's guitar playing and seen many clips of him on the TV with and without Tina. As a guitarist, he was under-rated, as an artist he was under-rated. For goodness sakes, he helped to kick start Rock and Roll way before Elvis came to the fore. Despite all of the unfortunate press about Ike in the early 1990s, the man was indeed an icon or should I say "Ikon". Rest in peace, Ike and thanks for the music.

The Apple of Our Eye…A Gift From God…
We love you dearly Ike. Thank you for being so good to Morgan and I. You were a wonderful gift from God to us in 1995. Although now she is 16 1/2 years old; she still talks about the day we all were getting ready to go to brunch and she threw up all over her pretty new dress (you picked up with your "Get It, Get It, Get It" awesome backup singer Barbara) and the backseat of your "Ike Revue" Mercedes.
So you carried her back in the house...the little squirt that she was at 3 1/2 years old; and you washed her off and took her to Target and let her pick out (2) new outfits because she was so upset her brand new puffy pink dress was all dirty...all she and I remember is how kind and considerate and champion epitome of a man you were to us. Morgan thought you were grand and you were so fun...and you were...she sends her hugs and love and she is going to do an assignment in art class for you as a tribute...I thought how wonderful and it will be...she is very talented that way...she will honor you well. She tells me it will be her way of saying thank you!
We love you Ike and we will miss you...but it's only for moment dear one; because we'll see you in Heaven when God calls our names and it's our turn to come home...see you then Ike! Thank you for being such a wonderful man to me; and lion-heart of a man for all of us to know. We share our deepest condolences to your family Ike. Rest well dear one, rest well...you’re in the presence and safe-secure care of Jesus now, the Lord God Almighty...kick up your heels Ike and enjoy it, what a glorious day this is for you!
We love you Ike...your never forgotten...you were and angel of blessing sent to Morgan and I from God in Heaven, now returned to Him; one day to greet us again...when we arrive. Thank you for being you Ike; you were some kind of special to Morgan and I…we will always be grateful for the times we share together and cherish our memories with you.
Even now, I can hear you singing all the way from Heaven big guy, sounds great Ike, sounds great...we're so very proud of you!
Love, hugs and fond memories, always,

Ike Turner a great musician |
December 13, 2007 |
Ike Turner was a really great musician because he wrote in 1951 one of the first
Rock & Roll Records "Rocket 88" which was recorded by Bill Haley & The
Comets and later in the 70's by the late Alexis Korner & Friends.
I have here a very old album issued on the London Label around 1968 in Holland
called "A black man's soul"-Ike Turner and Ike is doing great things like "Black
Beauty" "Black Angel", "Funky Music"" and some other things.
That's the real sound of the late and great Ike Turner on his own.
It hurts me a lot that Ike left this world so suddenly and my he rest in peace
forever. We will always remember his fine music forever.
His music will never die and will live on forever just like his name.
