Being born and raised in St. Louis, Mo. my older brother had the good fortune to drive across the river to East. St. Louis, IL. to see the Ike and Tina Turner Soul Review at a small club for a two-dollar cover charge in the early '60s ! Now that I live in San Diego near Ike I've had the good fortune to see him without Tina and let me tell you that man is Music History. Thanks Ike. My condolences to all.
I had the great good fortune to pass through the Ike Turner school of music in 1974. Spent a lot of time at Bolic and played some shows. I was treated with great patience once he recognized I was there to learn at the feet and hands of a master. This was one of the great experiences of my life and whenever I play it just so.....and someone says 'Wow! I can feel that!" I say Ike Turner taught me to play it real. He made so much music that never saw the light of day. Music was going night and day at Bolic. Some of the most innovative, groundbreaking R & B ever. Hopefully some of this still exists and will be heard one day. If you could come to the table humble and hungry Ike provided a feast. It could get scary but it don't come easy sometimes. I have always told anyone who would listen that the real Ike Turner got sidetracked along the way just as we all do from time to time. He paid a heavy price and and paid it with dignitty. Takin' back my name indeed! So to all whose lives were touched by Ike musically or personally play some music and homage to one of the great ones. May he rest in peace and be remembered for the great contribution he made to rock and roll. Om namah shivaya! I love you you my brother.
MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE TUNNER FAMILY. IKE WAS A GREAT MAN WITH VERY GOOD IDEAS AND HE IS TRUELY A MUSICAL IKON. IKE TURNER WILL TRUELY BE MISSED BY THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. I have known Ike for more than forty years. Nina is my sister who first introduced him to me at Bolic. We have shared many wonderful evenings, music, food and love. I truly loved you Ike, like Reed did. You were my brother who I could talk to about anything and get great advice. God is merciful, loving and embracing you, too. Take care, until we meet again.
